Patrick County High School (PCHS) held the first division Special Olympics on Friday, October 14 — the first since the COVID 19 pandemic closed schools in 2020. Fifty-five PCHS Varsity Club Members paired up with 51 kids from all over the county to play in the bouncy houses, get their faces painted, play some inflatable golf, and spend the day having fun.
Students from Mrs. Grace Helms’s art classes painted faces and did sidewalk drawings.
Mrs. Tammy Gammons’ nursing classes provided games.
Mrs. Melanie Culler’s cosmetology class braided and dyed hair, and Mr. Eli Roberson’s horticulture class taught the kids some lassoing skills.
Mike Gravely of Outdoor Entertainment was the DJ at the event and brought inflatable equipment for the kids.
Local EMS, fire, law enforcement, and Air Care were on hand to the delight of participants.
Special thanks to Mrs. Houston Deskins and Ms. Chelsea Hardy for all their hard work to make this day so special for everyone.
