Girls Score Win over Radford

The Girls Varsity Basketball Team traveled to Radford High on Monday, January 30.  After a hard-fought, close game, the Lady Cougars came out on top 39-31. Kimora Wimbush led PC with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist. Missy Hazard had 10 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals. Allanah Mitchell added 8 points, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds.

“It was a good win for our kids,” said Coach Donny Rakes. “We were down 2 starters with illness and injuries, but we still found a way to get out of there with a win. We were sloppy at times with the ball, but really played great defense in the 4th quarter. That was the difference in a close ballgame.”

Boys Suffer Loss in Danville

The Boys Varsity Basketball Team traveled to GW Danville on February 3, where they suffered a 54-77 loss to the Eagles.

Jai Penn had 16 points and 7 rebounds. David Smith had 10 points, 9 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block.  Michael Nelson had 5 points, 2 assist, 2 steals, and 1 rebound. Payton Stovall had 5 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. TJ Wimbush had 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal, and Demontez Hill had 5 points and 1 assist.

“Our guys played hard through 3 quarters,” said Coach Brian Chitwood. “We got off to a slow start in the 4th, and I played everyone.  We will be hosting Floyd County Monday. They are the #3 ranked team in the state.  It looks like we will be on the road for our district tournament, but there is a good chance we will host a 1st round Region 2C tournament game Friday the 17th.”
