Varsity Girls Take Down Martinsville
The Varsity Girls Basketball Team got a big win against Martinsville, Wednesday, January 14th, taking down the Lady Bulldogs 51-49. Martinsville dominated the 1st half, taking a 24-15 lead into halftime. But the Lady Cougars outscored Martinsville 26-15 in the second, solidifying the win. Kendra Worley had 18 points in the win as well as 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 deflections, and 5 steals. Chloe Hubbard had 10 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 deflections, and 2 steals. Gracen Conner had 8 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 deflections, and 4 steals. Sheyan Lester had 6 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block.

JV Team Suffers First Loss of Season
On Wednesday, January 14, the JV Lady Cougars lost their first game, falling 48-51 to Martinsville on the road. Trinitee Penn had 22 points, 4 assists, 4 steals, 1 rebound, and 1 block. Hailey Lester had 14 points, 2 assists, 7 steals, and 10 rebounds. Tiffany Eckrote had 5 points and 1 steal. Savannah Sanchez had 3 points and 1 rebound. Sarah Lawson had 2 points, 2 assists, 1steal, 7 rebounds, and 1 block. Shianne Townsend had 2 points, and Isabella Martin had 2 assists and 1 steal. Cassidy Brim had 2 rebounds, Alaina McBride had 1 rebound, and Allie Lewis had 1 rebound.

“Martinsville is a tough place to play. We had double the fouls called against us in the 4th quarter. The atmosphere got loud and the team lost composure. It was a very hard game. We have some work to do at practice. I love my team and am grateful to coach them. We have been fighting some sickness, but they worked hard tonight,” said Coach Grace Helms.

JV Girls Beat Chatham at Home
The Lady Cougar JV Basketball Team hosted Chatham, on Monday, January 12, beating the Lady Cavaliers 44-10. Trinitee Penn had 9 points, 3 assists and 6 steals. Hailey Lester had 9 points, 1 assist, 2 steals, and 4 rebounds. Sarah Lawson had 7 points, 1assist, 2 steals, and 3 rebounds. Cassidy Brim had 4 points, 3 assists, 2 steals and 4 rebounds. Alaina McBride had 4 points and 4 rebounds. Savannah Sanchez had 3 points, 1steal, and 1 rebound. Tiffany Eckrote had 2 points, 1 assist, 2 steals, 2 rebounds, and 1block. Shianne Townsend had 2 points, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 4 rebounds. Carrie Gregory had 2 points and 3 rebounds. Aaliyah Spencer had 2 points, 1 steal, and 1 rebound. Isabella Martin had 1 assist, 1 steal, and 2 rebounds. Allie Lewis had 1 steal. Kyley Cain had 1 steal and 2 rebounds. I am so proud of them.

“Tonight, they played team ball!” said Coach Grace Helms. “They shared the ball well and encouraged each other! I am blessed! Thanks to all the fans that came to cheer them on!”
