William D. Sroufe, Patrick County Schools Division Superintendent, was selected by his fellow superintendents as the Region 6 Superintendent of the Year.

Candidates are chosen for their strong leadership skills, dedication to improving the quality of education in their school districts, commitment to public support and involvement in education, and ability to build good employee relations among teachers and staff members.

Region 6 includes the cities of Danville, Martinsville, Roanoke and Salem; plus the counties of Craig, Floyd, Henry, Montgomery, Patrick, Pittsylvania and Roanoke.

“I am humbled by this distinction,” Sroufe said. “It is an honor and a privilege to serve as the Patrick County Public Schools division superintendent. Every day we learn and grow together, helping each other, and ultimately preparing our students for the future.”

“The designation of Superintendent of the Year highlights the hard work and ambition of Dr. Sroufe,” Stanley Jones, Danville City Schools superintendent, explained. “It is a rallying cry for the virtuous work that will most perceptibly continue under Dr. Sroufe’s tenure.”

Region 6 Chairman Jared Cotton, Henry County Division superintendent, said, “This is quite an honor considering the outstanding leadership we have in all the school divisions in Region 6! Appreciating the idea of collaborating to improve student achievement, Dr. Sroufe has reached outside the borders of Patrick County and fostered working relationship, particularly in Region 6.

“This kind of relationship challenges the educators in Patrick County to continually grow and develop in their profession,” Cotton continued. “His clear mission since becoming superintendent has been high quality instruction and putting students first. Patrick County Public Schools has been in a state of transformation for the past few years, and leading the charge has been its superintendent, Dr. William D. Sroufe.”
