The Patrick County High Lady Cougars started strong against the visiting Glenvar Highlanders in their January 24 matchup. Led by their stifling team defense, the Lady Cougars came away with the 46-17 win.

The Lady Cougars took a 3-0 lead in the first minute on a Camile Gonzalez 3-point shot. With end-to-end team defense and dominant rebounding, the Lady Cougars held Glenvar scoreless in the first quarter. Journey Moore and Gracen Conner added 3-pointers, helping the Lady Cougars to an 18-0 lead after one quarter.

They didn’t let up defensively in the second quarter, holding the Highlanders to 5 points. With continued solid play from their starters and reserves, the Lady Cougars took a 26-5 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Cougars held Glenvar to twelve points while extending their lead with smart ball movement on offense and continued stellar defensive play. In the fourth quarter, two Kendra Worley three-pointers, and another from Journey Moore, helped build their lead to 29 points, and a 46-17 victory.

Lady Cougar head coach, Tony Mosley, liked how his team started the game, and how they maintained that level throughout. “A lot of energy, that’s what we appreciate. We need energy on the floor, and our bench has to give us energy, and they did tonight.”

Mosley said the coaching staff had been emphasizing rebounding at practice, and the Lady Cougars responded, out rebounding Glenvar on the night. In addition, he liked the ball movement on offence and how it created three-point shot chances. “We knocked down some three’s, and that’s what we need.”

Gracen Conner led the Lady Cougars with 11 points. Journey Moore chipped in 8 points and Kendra Worley added 7 points. Kimora Wimbush had 5 points and 6 rebounds.
