Patrick County has received a sky cam that became effective on Monday, according to Joseph Quesenberry, director of tourism and marketing.
WXII Channel 12, based in Winston-Salem, N.C., has partnered with the Patrick County Tourism Office, the Stuart Town Office and Uptown Suites of Stuart to provide the service.
Along with being cast during weather segments, another major use of the sky cam will be to provide coverage of festivals and events along Main Street during news broadcasts.
The camera can rotate 180 degrees and will be able to provide “wide and exceptional views that were previously impossible to obtain,” Quesenberry said.
Leslie Marsh, owner of Uptown Suites and the locally-known “George Building,” was enthusiastic about hosting the sky cam at the top of her building.
Quesenberry said he is also excited about the sky cam’s potential.
“The camera provides free exposure into the Triad market, a region with over $1.6 million residents,” he said. “Something that seems so simple actually provides us with free marketing to hundreds of thousands of people. This sort of exposure is incalculable and truly constitutes a win-win for us all in marketing our beautiful county.”
