A three-vehicle crash on Sunday near Lovers Leap on U.S. 58 led to multiple injuries and snarled traffic.

The April 29 crash occurred at 7:38 p.m. on U.S. 58, about two miles west of Central Academy Road in Patrick County, according to a release from the Virginia State Police.

A 2012 Dodge Charger was traveling west on U.S. 58 when the vehicle allegedly crossed the center line.

Initially, a 2016 Honda CRV allegedly was side-swiped, according to the release.

A 2013 Ford Escape then allegedly was struck head-on.

Both of those vehicles struck were traveling east on U.S.58.

Dennis Cherry, Jr., 20, of Freeman, was operating the Dodge. He and his passenger, Royshad Jones, 24, were both injured. Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the incident and both were transported to a nearby hospital for injuries received in the crash.

The Honda, operated by Franklin D. Hitt, Jr., 60, of Danville, also was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the crash.

At the time of the incident, the Ford was operated by Cynthia L. Harford, 42, of Martinsville. Harford’s passengers included two juveniles, a 12 year old male and a 9-year- old female, all of whom were injured in the crash. Harford and the juveniles were wearing their seatbelts and were also transported by EMS to a nearby hospital.

Cherry was charged with reckless driving in connection with the incident.

The crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police Trooper J.M. Hylton.
