Surry Community College is offering a Pharmacy Technician Training course, beginning May 26 and running through August 6 at the Dobson campus.
The course is designed to teach students the hands-on skills needed to help prepare and dispense medications safely and accurately in both hospital and retail pharmacies under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
Students will learn how to package and label medications, how to handle medications, rules for controlled substances, manage pharmacy inventory, make non-sterile (non-injectable) medicines, and help patients pick up prescriptions.
Completion of the course will result in students performing basic pharmacy tasks with supervision in different work settings. Students may also qualify to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE), a national exam offered through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) in order to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
Tuition is $183 plus the cost of the book. For more information, or to register, contact Jessica Jessup, Director of Allied Health, at (336) 386-3416 or jessupjd@surry.edu. You may also register online at workforce.surry.edu.
