Susan Slate, 67, of Smith Mountain Lake, VA, formerly of Stuart, VA, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025.

Born in 1957, Susan was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose life was rooted in love, kindness, and generosity. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Pete Slate, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and deep affection.

Susan is survived by her two children, Jessica Gregory (Edward) and James Slate (Erin), and her four adored grandchildren: Arya and Slate Gregory, and Wyatt and Wade Slate. Her family was her greatest passion, and she poured her heart into being a loving presence in their lives. She never missed a moment to support, celebrate, or simply be there for the people she cherished most.

Known for her generous spirit and kind heart, Susan had a remarkable way of making everyone she met feel welcomed and valued. She was well known throughout the Stuart community, where she lived and worked for many years, touching countless lives with her warmth and sincerity.

In recent years, she made her home at Smith Mountain Lake, where she found joy in the peaceful waters and cherished time spent riding boats and soaking in the beauty around her. Those days on the lake, filled with laughter and sunshine, brought her deep happiness and will be fondly remembered by her family.

A graveside service will be held at Slate Family Cemetery Friday, April 18, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption at www.davethomasfoundation.org in honor of Susan’s memory and the love she shared so freely.
