Fresh Harvest Christian Church (D.O.C.)

Light is associated with goodness, purity, holiness, wisdom, grace and hope. By definition it is something that makes vision possible (Merriam-Webster).  When it is dark outside, we turn on the lights of our car or outside our houses so that we can see.  When we enter a room at night, we turn on the lights…so we can see what is in the room.  If we enter the dark room without turning on the light, we are apt to bump into objects and possibly be hurt.

Psalm 18:28 (NLT) “ You light a lamp for me.  The Lord, my God, lights up my darkness.”  Jesus is the light that directs our path.  He is who keeps us safe and protects us from all danger, seen and unseen.  If we but accept Him (Pay the electric bill), trust Him (flip on the light switch) and obey the Word (continue to pay the electric bill, flip the switch and trust the light will come on), He will do what He said He will do. Psalm 119:105 (NLT) “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”

Matthew 5:16 (NLT), Jesus said “ In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” We were given the command to go forth and make disciples (Matthew 28:19-20). Just as Jesus trained the twelve, we have the command to follow suit with people today.  How might one see if the light does not shine?  A blind person may not see color, shapes, or people, but can tell the difference between light and dark. John 1:5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John 8:12 (NLT) –  Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world.  If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”  If we study and ask God for divine revelation, we will find every answer to every question in the written Word of God.  If we listen for His voice and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us, we have all we need to keep our light shining bright so that others will see Christ in us.

We can probably feel our way around in the dark.  It is proven that once you become familiar with a set-up you are able to maneuver.  However, when there is anything out of place, it is hard to avoid bumping into it.  But, if we have light, we can always see what is within our view.  We may not always see what is coming but once it is in our view, we can do what we need to do.

Country singer Trace Adkins recorded a song entitled, “ Every Light in the House”.  The chorus of the song brought to my mind how Jesus must feel about us.

Every light in the house is on

The backyard’s bright as the crack of dawn

The front walk looks like runway lights

It’s kinda like noon in the dead of night

Every light in the house is on

Just in case you ever do get tired of being gone

Every light in the house is on.

I do believe that Jesus is keeping the light on for us.  He proved it the day He gave His life for us on Calvary and every day since.  He proves it with the written Word which teaches us that we can be forgiven, and that He will receive us if we confess with our mouths that He is the Son of the Living God.

Jesus is the light.  Let us press to walk, talk, and live in this light.  And, as we walk, talk, and live in this light, let us shine our light so bright that others won’t need to hear our words; they will be encouraged to follow as we follow Christ. Elbert Hubbard, an American editor, publisher, and author, once said that he who does not understand your silence will probably not understand your words. Let the light of Jesus shine in you. This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. Let it shine. Let it shine. Let it shine.
