Play explores famous 1912 Carroll County Courthouse shooting

Courthouse Productions announces that the drama “Thunder in the Hills” will be staged again this April at the historic Carroll County Courthouse, North Main Street, Hillsville. The play, which is performed in the same space where the famous courtroom shooting occurred on March 14, 1912, explores events leading up to and following that fateful date.

All performances in both 2012 and 2014 were sold out.

Many of the cast and crew members from past years will return for this year’s production. Meadows of Dan resident Peter Jonas will again take the role of Gov. William Hodges Mann while Ararat’s Thelma Jean Pack will debut in one of the leading roles as Frances Allen. Her husband Wayne will play both a prison guard and a deputy.

The play performances are scheduled for the following dates: April 7, 8 and 9; April 13, 14 and 15; April 21, 22 and 23; and April 28, 29 and 30. All Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 7 p.m. Sunday performances are at 2 pm. Please note that April 13 is a Thursday evening, and that there is no performance on Sunday, April 16.

Tickets are $25 each; a portion of ticket sales is earmarked for the J. Sidna Allen House Restoration fund.

Tickets sales are on sale at the Carroll County Historical Society Museum, N. Main Street, Hillsville. For more information, call (276) 728-4113; send email to carrollmuseum@yahoo.com; or contact Shelby Inscore-Puckett via email at sipuckett@ls.net.
