Three entities received the Tourism Achievement Award presented by the Patrick County Tourism Advisory Council. The awards are presented are presented annually to tourism-related entities that demonstrate dedication promoting and enhancing the local tourism industry.

The Tourism Advisory Council in December voted to present three awards in 2020 — one each to a tourism-related business, a tourism partner, and a community support partner.

Nominations for the 2020 awards were based, in part, on entities which showed resilience and community support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mattie Bs, the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce, Patrick County Family Practice each received an award.

The 2020 Tourism Achievement Award for Tourism Related Business presented to Mattie B’s in recognition of their superb dedication to the promotion and enhancement of the tourism industry in Patrick County and their resilience shown during the Covid-19 pandemic. Through dedicated service to the community, Mattie B’s has worked to achieve the highest standard of excellence in the Patrick County Tourism Industry.

“Mattie B’s has come up with every accommodating idea to keep business going and was a sure winner in trying to keep shopping local and her small business thriving,” said Joanne Spangler, chairman of the council.

The 2020 Tourism Achievement Award for Tourism Partner was presented to the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce in recognition of its superb dedication to the promotion and enhancement of the tourism industry in Patrick County and their unwavering support of local businesses during the pandemic. Through dedicated service to the community, the chamber worked to achieve the highest standard of excellence in the local tourism industry.

“The Chamber has sure been busy trying to keep the morale and all the spunk alive in Patrick County during the worst time tourism has had in quite some time. The pandemic has taken a toll on tourism and The Chamber faced it head-on and made it fun for the county to participate in activities fun for all ages. Thank you, Rebecca. You did an awesome job,” said Spangler.

The award for Community Support was presented to Patrick County Family Practice & Urgent Care for its superb dedication to the promotion and enhancement of the tourism industry in Patrick County through their support of the community as well as their dedication to the citizens of Patrick County during the pandemic.

“The great job Patrick County Family Practice and the Urgent Care has done for the citizen of Patrick County has been phenomenal. This pandemic has pushed the staff so far and they never gave up. This pandemic has been so draining on the staff physically, mentally, and emotionally. Not only do they worry about keeping the patients and staff safe during this time, but they have to worry about taking it home to their families. That is so much pressure for one to endure every day. Thank you to Dr. Cole and all your staff. You are all angels to so many,” Spangler said, and added “2020 has faced more challenges in one year than any year I can remember. Patrick County has outshined the challenges.”
