Greetings Patrick,

Director of Economic Development and Tourism
Do you remember the movie “Beverly Hills Cop” starring Eddie Murphy? One song from the soundtrack was “The Heat Is On” by Glenn Frey. I must say that the title fits as we are moving through summer. The temperature is soaring, as the heat is on!! I reminded each of you to be vigilant in keeping hydrated in this weather. Several tourists are visiting the many great spots throughout the county, and I ask you all to help us help them and keep them safe. Look out for signs of overheating and keep a check on each other. Another reminder is to watch out for infants and children being accidentally left in hot cars.
Take a moment to escape the heat and explore the shops located throughout our beautiful County. Visit the Harvest House Emporium, Ye Olde What-Not Shoppe, The Mayberry Trading Post, Concord Corner Store, Jerry & Connie’s House of Collectibles, Poor Farmer’s Market, Poor Farmers Farm, Poppy’s at Meadows of Dan, Nancy’s Candy Co., Nita’s Nook, The Honey Pot on Main, The Hatteras Pearl, Mattie B’s Gifts & Apparel, Pet ProVisions and many more throughout the county.
In some more exciting news, Primland, our premier luxury resort, which is nestled in the mountains of Meadows of Dan, was named the No. 1 Resort in the Continental US by Travel + Leisure, as well as No. 1 Resort in the South. Here is a statement from Travel + Leisure; “Primland Resort gives guests unparalleled access to the Appalachian wilderness, thanks to its perch in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Guests can golf on a championship course, explore extensive hiking and biking trails, or stargaze at the on-site observatory. And while getting out into nature and getting your hands dirty is the point, a refined elegance flows throughout Primland’s 12,000 acres. Its accommodations, ranging from lodge-style rooms to tree houses, are as charming as it gets, while the wellness offerings make the resort a favorite for those seeking both adventure and calm.” “Such a beautiful venue sitting on top of a mountain,” one reader said. “So many things to do to keep you busy.”
Primland is one of the many gems of Patrick County, and we congratulate them on both of the awards. Here is a link to the announcement as seen on NBC and the articles.
