Patrick authorities were summoned to a home on Horace Lane Monday to a reported shooting incident.

Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith said deputies arrived at the Stuart home around 10:46 a.m., and found two bodies.

Misty Dawn Blevins, 30, died of a single gunshot wound, Smith said.

Michael David Lawson, 32, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Smith said.

Lawson and Blevins shared the home together, according to Smith, who said the incident is considered a murder/suicide based on evidence that suggests Lawson shot and killed Blevins and then committed suicide sometime Sunday or Monday.

Both bodies were transported to the state Medical Examiner’s office in Roanoke, where they will undergo an autopsy, Smith said.

The investigation is continuing with the help of criminal investigators with the Virginia State Police, Smith added.

He declined to elaborate on additional details of the incident.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Smith at (276) 692-7012 or Inv. Brian Hubbard at (276) 692-6512.
