A Patrick County woman was among two fatalities in a head-on collision Thursday, according to a release from the Virginia State Police.
The crash occurred at 7:10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, on Fairystone Parkway, one half mile east of Fairystone Lake Drive in Patrick County.
At the time, a 2019 Ford Fusion was traveling east on Fairystone Parkway. The vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 1999 Honda Passport head-on.
Reese O’Neil Wiggington, 36, of Ferrum, was operating the Ford, according to the release. Wiggington died at the scene.
Donna Baliles Benfield, 48, of Stuart, was operating the Honda. She died at the scene.
Both vehicles had only the single occupant.
Benfield and Wiggington were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police Trooper T.E. Knight.
