Two people were injured in a crash involving two motorcycles at around 12:15 p.m. May 15 at the intersection of Rt. 57 and Microfilm Road, according to a report from State Trooper Patrick Meade.
Joseph Strain Jr., of Pittsboro, N.C., who was operating a 2002 Honda motorcycle, was attempting to make a right turn onto Rt. 687 (Microfilm Road) when his motorcycle was struck in the rear by a 2000 Suzuki motorcycle operated by Elizabeth Soileau, also of Pittsboro. Soileau was ejected from her motorcycle and transported by helicopter to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Strain ran off-road after the impact, but wasn’t ejected. He was taken to Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County, where he was treated and released.
Meade said Strain and Soileau are neighbors and were riding together.
The Patrick County and Henry County sheriffs’ offices, Smith River Rescue Squad, and Fairystone Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the accident scene.
The accident is still under investigation, Meade said.
