Varsity Boys Suffer Heartbreaking Loss

The Boys Varsity Team hosted Floyd County, the #3 team in the state, February 6. Patrick County jumped out to a 16-5 advantage over the Buffaloes in the 1st quarter.  Floyd County outscored PC in the 2nd, but PC went into halftime with a 38-32 lead. The Cougars outscored Floyd in the 3rd, never trailing Floyd until the 4th.  

Floyd proved to be too much and took the lead late in the 4th, getting a narrow 76-73 win over Patrick County. Jai Penn had 28 points, 7 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals in the game. He was 4 for 7 behind the 3-point line. Jalen Hagwood had 13 points, 8 rebounds, 4 deflections, 2 blocks, and 1 steal.  Payton Stovall had 12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, 1 deflection, and 1 steal. David Smith had 8 points, 6 deflections, 2 blocks, 2 steals, and 1 assist.  

The Cougars take on Magna Vista, Friday, February 17.  The girls begin play at 6 with the boys’ game following.
