Varsity team loses two at home

The Patrick County Varsity Boys team lost a hard-fought game 56-70 when hosting the Bassett Bengals on January 25.

The Cougars came out strong, leading 18-11 at the end of the first. Bassett came back with a strong 2nd quarter. taking a 33-29 lead into halftime.

The Cougars outscored the Bengals in the 3rd, but it wasn’t enough to pull off the win.

Jai Penn led the Cougars offensively with 21 points. Penn had three rebounds, two assists, and three steals.

Payton Stovall had seven points, four rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block.

Patrick County hosted Martinsville on January 26, and fell in a close matchup.

Martinsville took an early lead, but the Cougars were strong in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, tying it up heading into the 4th.

The Bulldogs put up 22 points in the 4th to give them a 59-49 win over the Cougars.

Jai Penn had 15 points, four rebounds, nine assists, three steals, and one block.

Demontez Hill had 11 points, five rebounds, and one steal.
