The Patrick County Varsity Volleyball team ended the week with a well-earned victory over the visiting Martinsville Bulldogs in straight sets.
The first set was tied at 5-all when the Cougars jumped ahead to a commanding 16-6 lead before winning 25-8. The second set was all Cougars, as a strong service game gave them a 13-1 lead as they won 25-11. The final set started well for the Cougars, who were ahead 7-1 early before the Bulldogs rallied to make a 11-9 score; however the Cougars again turned up the heat and won the set 25-12 and the match.
Leading the team was Izzy Beasley’s 9 kills, and Julianna Overby’s 12 assists. Jenna King added 5 kills and 4 aces. According to senior Ashlee Mesot, who had a team high 17 assists, the team is not only improving every game but she feels like the team is “starting to get there.” Fellow senior Savannah Roberts, who had a team high 10 kills, echoed those sentiments saying the team is “improving a lot” lately and played “a good game.” The Cougars are now 5-9 overall.
The Varsity team lost to Franklin County with scores of 20-25, 13-25 and 12-25. Beasley had 5 kills, 1 block and 7 digs. Roberts had 5 kills and 2 aces. Mesot led the team with 16 assists and King added 13 digs.
The Patrick County Varsity volleyball team lost a hard fought thriller on the road to Magna Vista in 5 sets—21-25, 25-21, 25-17, 15-25, 9-15. Beasley had 15 kills and 5 aces. Roberts added 7 kills and 2 aces. Mesot had a team high 22 assists as well as 3 aces. King had 19 digs.
