Verlie Marie Shelton Stone, 98, of Bassett, died Friday, May 20, 2016, at Stanleytown Health Care.
She was born on June 23, 1917, in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late James Aubrey Shelton and the late Martha Susie Clark Shelton. She was also preceded in death by husband, Booker Burch “Tonce” Stone; brothers, James Curtis Shelton and Melvin Shelton; sisters, Gladys Martin Fonsler and Shirley Martin.
She was a member of Blackberry Baptist Church where she was served for over 40 years in the nursery.
Surviving are two sons, Booker Rodney Stone and Royal Burch Stone; four daughters, Connielle “Connie” Koger, Anita Marie Haden, Lovetta Franklin, and Susan Biggs; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Alvis Shelton; one sister, Mildred Sigmon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Monday at Blackberry Baptist Church with Pastor Eric Kieselbach officiating. Burial was in Union Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Blackberry Baptist Church, 3241 Stones Dairy Road, Bassett, VA 24055.
