Mr. Virgil Anderson Burnett, age 92 of Stuart, VA passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022. He was born in Danville on April 24, 1930, and was the son of the late Reverend Roy B. Burnett, Sr. and Lois Stallings Burnett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Virginia Ferguson Burnett and his brother, Roy Burnett, Jr.
Virgil is survived by two daughters, Catherine Clark (Eddie) of Richmond, VA, Melody Johnston (David) of Oak Hill, VA; granddaughter, Amy Catherine Clark Herring (Joe); grandson, Eric Lyle Clark (Sara); three great-granddaughters, Meredith and McKenzie Herring and Emmaline Clark; one great-grandson, Micah Herring; and two sisters, Mary Small of Lenoir, NC and Frances Wyatt of McLean, TX.
He graduated from Martinsville High School and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He attended Bluefield College and received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1958 from Virginia Polytechnic and State University (VA Tech) making him a member of the Alumni Association OLD GUARD. He worked for United Elastic and J. P. Stevens for 25 years.
Virgil enjoyed helping and serving others, playing chess, working at the Patrick County Food Bank, and running many miles in this county he so loved.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Elkins officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be provided by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday morning.
