obit virginia stoweVirginia Layman Stowe, 87, of Covington Lane, Ridgeway, died Monday, February 1, 2016, at Blue Ridge Rehab in Martinsville.
She was born September 23, 1928, in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late William Edgar Layman Jr. and the late Monnie Martin Layman. She was also predeceased by her husband, William Robert Stowe Sr.; daughters, Deborah Stowe Wilson and Kathy Stowe Spencer; sons, Randy Lee Stowe and wife Regina, William “Bobby” Robert Stowe Jr.; and brothers, Ray Layman and Johnny Layman; and one grandchild.
She was a member of Horsepasture Christian Church. She was the owner and operator of Virginia’s Fabric Shop, and retired from Bassett Walker and Wal-Mart.
Surviving are one daughter, Janie Stowe Manning of Ridgeway; one son, David Raye Stowe of Winston-Salem, N.C.; sisters, Thelma L. Carter of Mount Airy, N.C. and Carolyn L. Matthews of Roanoke; brother, Bill Layman of Florida; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Norris Funeral Services Martinsville Chapel with Dr. Dennis Wingate officiating. Burial will follow at Patrick Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) at Norris Funeral Services Martinsville Chapel and other times at the home of Janie Manning, 199 Covington Lane, Ridgeway, Va.
