Virginia “Ollie” Hopkins Martin, age 97, of Bassett, Virginia passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025. She was born May 3, 1927 to Mack Daniel and Mary Lou Deal Hopkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Akers Martin, sisters; Dovie Tuggle and Mildred Hopkins, and brothers; Grover Hopkins and Henry Hopkins.

Ollie made welcome many “fur children” through the years. She has a special fondness of cats, her nieces and nephews, mostly in that order and spoiled them rotten with little trips and treats through the years.

She is survived by her nieces; Jean Thomas (Clyde), Debra Peters Smith (Johnny), and Rhonda Mullins (Bernie), and their families. She is also survived by a special cousin Russ Blevins (Hope), and a host of other special friends, her husband’s nieces and nephews and many cousins.

Ollie maintained her spunk, mostly intact memory and keen sense of humor, delighting her wonderful caregivers, Bugs and Terry, and all who knew her until her final days.

She was of the Primitive Baptist Faith and loved driving to visit various churches. And after retiring from Bassett Walker and Dominion LOF, she enjoyed eating out, reading and listening to music.

Ollie requested no flowers and instead, donations could be made to Patrick Henry Volunteer Fire Department, 3125 County Line Road, Patrick Springs, VA 24133.

The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice for the wonderful care during the illness of our precious loved one.

A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, March 12 at 2:00 PM at Henry Memorial Park in Bassett, Virginia with Reverend Daniel Collins officiating.
