Voters heading to the polls on Nov. 8 may expect changes in some precincts

Some voters may travel to a different precinct to cast a ballot on Tuesday, November 8, due to the redistricting that occurred earlier this year, according to Patrick County Registrar Susan Taylor.

“There were changes because the boundaries of the precincts moved. So, there were some people that were affected,” she said.

Although polls still will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Taylor estimated 10 of the county’s 13 precincts experienced some type of change.

“Most all precincts were affected. So, there were people voting at Patrick Springs who now go to Critz, and there were people at Critz who voted at Critz who now go to Liberty, and some at Liberty who are now going to Elamsville. So, they all changed,” she said.

The biggest change is the town of Stuart being put into one precinct. All town residents will vote at the John D. Hooker Building at Rotary Field.

“If they live in the town of Stuart that’s where they’ll go,” she said.

Taylor said a form was sent out to every registered voter in late September/early October advising them of changes in their voting precincts.

Voters may check their precinct by visiting the Virginia Department of Elections website at www.elections.virginia.gov and clicking on the Citizen Portal. From there, voters can put their information in to check their precinct location.

Sample ballots are printed in this newspaper showing the names of the candidates.

Voters are also reminded to bring an acceptable form of identification with them on Election Day, as Virginia law requires that all voters present an acceptable form of identification when voting. Any voter who does not have acceptable ID may sign an ID confirmation statement.

A registered voter needing to vote early may do so in person in the Registrar’s Office, located at the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Building, 106 Rucker St, Rm 216C, Stuart, VA 24171. The office is open Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Early Voting will be available on Saturday, November 5. The final day for early voting is Saturday, November 5 at 5 p.m. For additional information contact the Registrar’s Office at (276) 694-7206.

Due to redistricting, Patrick County voters may be voting at a different polling location. All voters were mailed a new voter notice in September and October to make them aware of their voting district and location. Voters are encouraged to visit https://vote.elections.virginia.gov/VoterInformation or contact the Registrar’s Office to check their information prior to Election Day.
