Students at Woolwine Elementary School enjoyed the “Souper Hero Literacy Night” October 17.
Families enjoyed a choice of vegetable or taco soup, crackers and chips, and delicious chocolate cobbler with ice cream. Joni Martin read the book Dex: The Heart of a Hero to everyone.
Creating individual masks and capes was the highlight of the evening. Students also enjoyed leveled activities to practice their superhero reading and writing skills. The efforts of many made this parental involvement night successful. Hanes Brand in Woolwine donated the fabric for the superhero capes, and parent volunteers Kathy Hylton and Shannon Kendrick cut and assembled the capes.
Cafeteria Manager Ellen Hylton planned and prepared the meal, and faculty and staff assisted as students participated in the reading activities. Students and parents are encouraged to attend the Super Bowl Math night, which will be held in February.
