The West Piedmont Planning District Commission is updating its Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy and is seeking input from residents, businesses and community partners through a public survey.
The CEDS serves as a regional framework for economic growth and community development, including efforts to create jobs, diversify local economies and improve quality of life.
“Updating the CEDS is a critical opportunity to guide the future of our region,” said Michael Armbrister, executive director of the WPPDC. “This plan not only sets our shared vision and priorities, but also serves as a vital tool when competing for grant opportunities that can bring new resources and investments to our communities.”
The WPPDC was designated as an Economic Development District by the U.S. Economic Development Administration in 1992. The designation requires the commission to update its CEDS every five years to qualify for EDA assistance and maintain its designation. The previous CEDS covered 2022-26.
“Community input is essential to creating a strategy that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of our region,” said Kiana Dillard, economic development specialist for the WPPDC, who is leading the update.
The commission hosted a working committee meeting June 6 with regional leaders from health care, education, transportation, economic development, government and nonprofit organizations. The group discussed goals and timelines, as well as regional strengths, challenges, opportunities and trends.
The planning process is expected to conclude in early 2027, with the final plan scheduled for adoption in the spring.
The survey is available on the WPPDC website, www.westpiedmontpdc.org.
