Woman charged with attempted murder

A Woolwine woman was arrested Sunday, May 17, and charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder, according to Patrick County Investigator Brian Hubbard.
Denese P. Kendrick, 46, of Iron Bridge Road, Woolwine, was arrested following an incident at Grassy Creek Lane, Patrick Springs, in which she allegedly tried to run over three people while driving a full-size sports utility vehicle (SUV), Hubbard said.
The victims were listed as Cynthia Spence, Kendrick’s sister; James Spence, Kendrick’s brother-in-law, and Brandon Spence, the Spences’ son.
The victims were able to jump out of the way of the vehicle and call 911, Hubbard said.
The four people got into an argument prior to the vehicular attack, according to statements from the victims.
Kendrick is being held in Patrick County without bond.
Deputy Winfred Hill made the initial response to the call, and Hubbard is in charge of the investigation.
Sheriff Dan Smith also reported the following arrests:
• James Daniel Biggs, 25, of Patrick Springs, was arrested May 17 on a charge of possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance.
Investigator T.D. Mikels made the arrest.
• Clyde Allen Massey, 81, of Stuart, was arrested May 16 on charges of shooting wildlife from a vehicle, shooting across a street or road, and trespassing.
Game Warden Dale Owens made the arrest.
• Amy Dawn Harris, 32, of Stuart, was arrested May 17 on a charge of probation violation.
Investigator Linda Martin made the arrest for Henry County.
• Roy D. McAllister, 46, of Bassett, was arrested May 17 on a charge of probation violation.
The Staunton Police Department made the arrest for Patrick County. • Joshua Wayne Justice, 27, of Stuart, was arrested May 18 on a charge of assault on a family member.
Deputy C.K. Meredith made the arrest.
• Kody Devin Katzer, 20, of Stuart, was arrested May 19 on a charge of assault and battery.
Deputy R.J. Williams made the arrest. Billy Jay Chappell, 22, of Ararat, was arrested May 19 on a charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle.
Deputy J.G. Pickerel made the arrest.
• Brittany Nicole Wright, 30, of Woodlawn, was arrested May 19 on charges of shoplifting and trespassing.
Deputy Pickerel made the arrest.
• Joshua Coy Reed, 36, of Stuart, was arrested May 16 on a charge of assault and battery and an indictment charge of obtaining money by false pretense.
Deputy D.L. Foley made the arrest.
• Stephanie F. Roberts, 42, of Critz, was arrested May 16 on a capias for failure to appear in court.
Deputy S. F. Keffer made the arrest.
• Kenneth Allen Yayger, 28, of Stuart, was arrested May 16 on charges of trespassing, shooting wildlife from a vehicle, and shooting across a road or street.
Game Warden Owens made the arrest.
• Misty Kay Wilson, 27, of Stuart, was arrested May 21 on a capias for failure to appear in court.
Deputy D. Dillon made the arrest for Franklin County.
• Brandi Davis Martin, 32, of Stuart, was arrested May 21 on a charge of failure to appear in court.
Deputy Gray made the arrest.
• Junior Abraham W. Fitzgerald, 35, of Patrick Springs, was arrested May 22 on a capias for failure to appear in court and a charge of contempt of court.
Deputy J.W. Kruse made the arrest for Franklin County.
