The Patrick County Cougars wrestling team competed at the 3D regional tournament on Saturday, Feb. 7.

The Cougars had five regional placers: Alfredo Gutierrez, with a second place finish at 113; Owen Smith with a third place finish at 126; Darious Williams with a sixth place finish at 132; Aiden LaComa with a fourth place finish at 220; and Jaheim Johnson with a sixth place finish at 285.

Three Cougars placed in the top four to advance to the state tournament this weekend in Salem: Junior Alfredo Gutierrez, Sophomore Owen Smith, and Freshman Aiden LaComa.

“I am very proud of our guys and how hard they work through the adversity we had this year,” head coach Robert Cunningham said. “The guys I got never complained, just came to practice day in and day out and just worked hard. And it showed today at the regional tournament of how hard they worked grinding throughout the year.”
