On Monday, August 28, 96 golfers met on the Primland golf course in Meadows of Dan to compete in a golf tournament fund-raiser benefiting Patrick Henry Community College’s athletic department.

The competition came to a three-way tie between teams from Len Dillon Insurance, Rogers Realty & Auction Co., and Bassett Furniture. The winner, determined by a tournament playoff, was the Len Dillon Insurance team comprised of Len Dillon, Terry Carter, Tim Stone, and Greg Surratt.

Second place went to Keith Gunter, Taylor Coalson, Gray Trotter, and Tony Flippen of the Rogers Realty & Auction Company. Eddie White, Bruce Cohenour, Chuck Tate, and Mie Daniel on the Bassett Furniture team finished third.

In the eyes of Brian Henderson, PHCC’s athletic director, every participant is a winning team because they all contribute to the success of PHCC’s athletic program. Henderson said that the golf tournament is “a critical part of the athletics fund-raising efforts. To maintain a strong, meaningful athletics program that can impact the lives of so many young men and women, we have to have our supporters.”

This year, PHCC’s athletic department has over 170 student-athletes and nine different sports. PHCC athletes regularly receive national recognition in their sports. Also, every year students are signed with scholarships to four-year universities.

“Our aim is to see students succeed, and if athletics is a way to help them do that then we need to provide that option for them,” said Henderson. “Ultimately, this semester’s golf tournament was not just a great day of golf with many great supporters. It was also an opportunity for our community partners to participate in creating a space for our students to excel, grow, and achieve.”

PHCC Athletics will host its spring tournament on April 23, 2018 at Chatmoss Country Club. For information or to sign up, contact Henderson at bhenderson@patrickhenry.edu.
