Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Wright Turner, age 84 of Martinsville, Virginia passed away at Sovah Hospital in Martinsville on Thursday, December 12, 2024. She was born in Patrick County on August 27, 1940, to the late Robert Alvin Wright and Elizabeth Naylor Wright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Wright Spencer.
Ann grew up in Patrick County and graduated from Hardin Reynolds Memorial High School, Critz, Virginia. She worked for Anthony Brothers Supply and Fieldcrest Mills Personnel Office. Ann moved to Laurinburg, North Carolina in 1971 when her husband transferred with Fieldcrest Mills. In Laurinburg she worked as assistant business manager for St. Andrews College and later went to work for Cape Fear Farm Credit as a loan officer and paralegal. She retired from Farm Credit with 26 years of service. After retirement for a while she went to work for a realty firm for two years. While in Laurinburg, she volunteered for the Chamber of Commerce, nursing home, Relay for Life, and March of Dimes. Ann played on a local tennis team for years. Her team won the North Carolina State Championship one of those years. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Laurinburg for over 35 years. She worked for the food bank where they served over 100 families once a month. She worked on numerous committees for the church. Ann loved to do crafts, reading, cross stitch, walking, and tennis. In 2010 she and her husband moved back home to be near family. After moving home, she moved her membership to Pleasant View Baptist Church; the church she grew up in.
Mrs. Turner is survived by her husband, Ned Turner of the home; one son, Gregory Wright Turner of Martinsville; one granddaughter, Megan Murdock (Ryan) of Fort Mill, SC; two great-grandchildren, Liam and Lyza Kate; two sisters, Alvina W. Price of Patrick Springs and Lois W. Vaughn of Axton; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Ellie.
Funeral services for Mrs. Turner will be held Monday, December 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Pastor Joey McNeil officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
