A leadership group, accompanied by instructor Sarah Wray, arrived at the Laurel Hill Park in the Reynolds Homestead Van from Virginia Tech on Tuesday, April 28. Tom Perry volunteered to tour with the group and explain several sites.
The group visited the Memorial Pavilion and the sample railroad track. The railroad track, a sample of what once ran through part of the Stuart property, was part of the Dinky Railroad, which traveled between Kibler Valley and Mount Airy, North Carolina, carrying some passengers but primarily timber.
After viewing interpretive signs at the Memorial Pavilion, the group walked up the hill to Elizabeth’s Garden and the site of the Stuart home. The homesite and garden are named for JEB Stuart’s mother, Elizabeth.
