Varsity Teams

Varsity Softball Wins Two on the Road

The PCHS Varsity Softball Team traveled to Giles, April 27, getting a 6-5 win. Journey Moore pitched 4 shutout innings, striking out 6. Jenna Woods finished the game in the circle. Lauren Hazelwood got a home run in the win. Hayden Lawless had 3 hits. Moore had a double and a triple. T. Lawless had a double with 3 RBIs, and Woods added a hit. Tuesday, April 28, the ladies defeated Carroll County 5-2. H. Lawless got the win, pitching 5 innings and striking out 6. Woods pitched the last 2 innings, pitching 11 pitches and giving up 0 runs. Ava Hiatt led the way with 3 hits and 3 RBIs. Lacy Sutphin had a hit with an RBI. Woods, T. Lawless, H. Lawless, and Chloe Hubbard each had hits.

PCHS Track Team Competes at Glenvar

The Patrick County Track and Field Teams made a strong showing at the Three Rivers Meet hosted by Glenvar on April 28. Leading the way for the girls was Ellianna Montgomery who captured a 1st place finish in the 1600-meter run. Gracen Conner earned runner-up honors in the 100-meter dash and placed 3rd in the 200. Cameron Rakes added a 2nd place finish in the 3200, and Aaliyah Spencer took 2nd in discus. The Lady Cougars also showed depth in distance events, with multiple top 6 finishes in the 1600 and 3200 and a 4th place finish in the 4×100 relay. In the boys’ competition, Fisher Martin highlighted the meet with a 4th place finish in the 800-meter run, while Riley Jones placed 5th in the 1600. Braydon Hylton led the sprinters with a 6th place finish in the 100-meter dash.

“Overall, Patrick County continued to show progress across both sprint and distance events, with several athletes positioning themselves well as the postseason approaches,” said Coach Tony Mosley.

Lady Cougars defeat Lady Buffaloes

The Patrick County Lady Cougar Varsity Softball Team got revenge against Floyd when they hosted the Lady Buffaloes, Friday, May 1, getting a 13-3 in 5 innings. Jenna Woods went all 5 innings in the circle for the Lady Cougars, putting on an impressive performance. Journey Moore went 3-3 with a triple and 3 stolen bases. Lacey Sutphin and Chloe Hubbard each had 2 hits. Ava Hiatt had a triple. Taylor Lawless and Aubreigh Large each had hits in the win.

JV Teams

JV Baseball Beats Liberty Bedford

Patrick County High School’s JV Baseball Team put on quite a performance at the plate racking up 10 hits in their 11-3 road victory over Liberty Bedford, on Monday, April 27. The Cougars had a big 3rd inning, adding 6 runs to the scoreboard. Levi Hankins led the way at the plate with 3 hits, an RBI, and 1 run. Austin Harrell had 1 hit and 2 RBIs. Jaxon Handy had 1 hit and 3 runs, Ian Baker had 1 hit and 1 RBI, and Ayden Garcia added 2 RBIs. Hankins went 3.1 innings on the mound allowing 0 runs and striking out 2.

JV Baseball Splits Week

PC just fell short to Carroll County, 7-6, in a tightly contested game in Hillsville Tuesday night. The Cougars had runners on 2nd and 3rd in the last inning, but hit into a game ending double play. Jaxon Handy had 1 hit, 1 run and 1 RBI. Levi Hankins had 1 hit, 1 run, and 1 RBI. Caleb Vaughn had 1 hit and 1 run. Charlie Tabor went 1.1 innings and allowed 0 runs. The Cougars got a 6-0 win over Floyd, Friday, May 1. Tabor had a dominant night on the mound, pitching a complete 7 inning game with 12 strike outs, 1 walk, and allowed 1 hit. Vaughn had 4 hits and 2 runs. Ian Martinez, Garcia, and Hankins had 1 hit and 1 RBI each. Handy added an RBI. The JV Cougars are 10-4 on the season.

JV Softball Defeats Carroll

The Patrick County JV Softball Team got a big 11-1 win over Carroll County, Tuesday, March 28. The Cougars got on the board in the 1st when Bailey Thompson scored after tagging up. PC scored 5 runs on 3 hits in the 2nd. Sarah Lawson scored after tagging up. Addy Foley drew a walk, scoring one, and Delia Jordan singled, sending 2 across the plate. They added 1 run in the 3rd when Savannah Sanchez singled to center. Cassidy Brim started in the circle for the Lady Cougars, striking out 3, walking 4, allowing 1 hit and 0 runs over 3 innings. Foley pitched in relief. PC had 10 hits in the game. Brim, Thompson, and Delia Jordan had 2 hits each. The Lady Cougars drew 6 walks at the plate.
