Sarah Dessen said, “In the April of life, the days are sweet and fragrant.”
Looking back on this past month, I totally agree with her. April was a fast month and we stayed busy.
Joni’s yoga classes continue to be full and well attended. Bingocize continued, with the amazing Terri Alt, from the VA Extension Office, leading. The Homeschool Bookworms meeting this month was so fun. We learned about poetry and even made up our own acrostic poems. We discussed that not all poems rhyme or follow a pattern. At the end of the class, we all found a poem from preselected books, and presented it in front of the group. We are working on our presentation skills and they are doing great.
Book Bedazzling was another hit. We had a couple new people join us and made some shiny new creations. It is so fun each time we get together. Miss Lisa has had a great time this month with Lego club and Storytime. Themes were anything from giraffes to how does your garden grow. So fun and learning happens at our library.
Book trivia was amazing. We had three teams affectionally named: The Book was Better (84 points), The Book Club, who were all retired teachers (70 points), and Know the Answer (31 points), who were all homeschooled preteens and one teen. Themes included were was the author male or female, name the book based on the cover picture, Series of books, Wizard of Oz questions, movies based on books, the Classics and much more. We never fail to have full belly laughs at ANY of our trivia nights and that is what makes it so memorable.
Sit and Stitch was attended both times it was held and that is always appreciated. Felting Fun was also a ton of fun and something I had never seen done before. Pam Hylton, one of our patrons, donated her time and talents on Saturday, April 18th, 2026. Participants worked on needle felting and created the cutest little chick.
Cindy Howe hosted the Senior Social this month, leading a class of seniors painting a galaxy scene with a pine tree filled forest at the bottom using watercolors on canvas. We are always thankful for Cindy and all the time and effort she puts into her art programs here at our library.
We finished April with another trivia night. Holiday Trivia, started an hour earlier than usual, just to be able to have a younger audience in attendance. The Easter Bunny made another appearance outside directing cars into the library parking lot, because it was Holiday trivia after all. We had two teams who played a close game, but the Holly Jolly Hippos pulled off the win. Prizes were stockings filled with patriotic sunglasses, holiday candy and other fun items. Our next trivia is Thursday, May 21, Star Wars versus Star Trek.
The Patrick County Library also was able to purchase new and improved seating for both the juvenile and periodical sections of the library thanks to donations made this year.
Another month has passed and I cannot thank the staff here at the Patrick County Library enough for their hard work and dedication to our library. I can’t wait to see what May has in store for us; from our new computer system, training, Bridgerton tea, preparing for summer reading and who knows what else, one thing I know for sure, is that we are a devoted team and we will all get through it all graciously. Until next month, happy reading.
