Ada Doris Rakes, age 89, of Stuart, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at her home.
She was born in Patrick County on October 23, 1926, and was a daughter of the late Homer and Lena Brammer Rakes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willis Rakes; a grandson, Paul Davis Rakes; two sisters, Gladys Rakes and Elsie Pendleton; and five brothers, Clyde, Alvin, Davis, George “Jink” and Falis “Faye” Rakes.
She attended Union Primitive Baptist Church and had retired from Bassett Furniture.
Surviving are one daughter, Nelda Gail Rakes of Stuart; one son, Clayton Davis Rakes and wife Era of Henry; one granddaughter, Linda Naff and husband Jeff; one step-grandson, Kenneth Hubbard and wife Jo; two great-grandchildren, Caleb Naff and Heather Naff; two stepgreat-grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Lyon of Woolwine, Elaine Adkins of Akron, Ohio, and Lorene Guilliams of Rocky Mount; and one brother, Glen Rakes of Bassett.
A graveside service was held Saturday at Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Elder Mark Terry officiating. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
