Pictured is one of Stuart Elementary School’s third grade classes along with Sandra Heath, Patrick County Farm Bureau board member and volunteer and Commonwealth of Virginia’s/Patrick County Soil and Water Conservation district manager. Heath visited Mrs. Hutchens’ class and spoke about soils, erosion, weathering and the importance of agriculture. They learned the difference between dirt and soil. The students also learned about the layers and parts of soil. They enjoyed interacting with the soil erosion model, earthworms and different parts of soil. Each student received a poster, soils folder and Sammy Soil activity. (Photo by Jessica Hutchens)
