Ten students have recently graduated from Surry Community College’s Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program.
The graduation was held June 24, in the Grand Hall of the Shelton-Badgett North Carolina Center for Viticulture & Enology on SCC’s Dobson campus.
The BLET Day I Class graduates are Hoyt Eli Bullington, Kelly Jonah Cox, and Tye Christopher Needham of Pilot Mountain; Aaron Alan Baugess of Elkin; James Levi Coe of Ararat; Kaden Scott Cooper of East Bend; Josiah David Eacho of Tobaccoville; Joseph Hunter Iervolino of Ararat, Va.; Joseph Bernard Kenyon of Mount Airy; and Austin Ray Smith of Sparta.
Dr. Ashley Morrison, Vice President of Instruction and Student Services, spoke at the graduation and congratulated the graduates on their accomplishments and achieving excellence with a 100-percent pass rate for the state exam for first-time test takers.
The Basic Law Enforcement Training Program is a 868-hour program designed to prepare individuals with cognitive and physical skills to become entry level certified police officers and deputy sheriffs in North Carolina. Persons desiring to become sworn law enforcement officers in North Carolina must successfully complete this course in its entirety and pass a state exam. To qualify for admission, an individual must meet the same requirements as those mandated by the N.C. Criminal Justice Standards/N.C. Sheriffs’ Standards Commission for a sworn law enforcement officer.
