Mrs. Avis Quesinberry Light, age 96 of Meadows of Dan, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born in Carroll County on June 12, 1928, to the late Charlie Larkin Quesinberry and Annie Eunice Burnette Quesinberry. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Light was preceded in death by her husband Lazarus Dwain Light; sisters, Glaspa Eunice Painter and Bertha Mae Draper; brother Charlie Gale Quesinberry, and infant brother Clarence Quesinberry.

Avis’s death marked the end of an era. She was delivered into the world by the midwife, Orlean Puckett, and lived her formative life on the farm that had once belonged to her grandfather. She was schooled in the virtues of hard work, deep faith, and kindness to everyone she met. She was fortunate enough to live in a supportive community that allowed her to live as she wanted to till the age of 96.

Avis is survived by one daughter, Peggy Light (Lincoln Fajardo) of Kempton, Pennsylvania; grandsons, Adam Fajardo (Ginelle Heller) of Roanoke, Virginia, and Lucas Fajardo of Boyertown, Pennsylvania; great-grandson Heath Owen Fajardo; great-granddaughter Calla Luz Fajardo; sister Ilene Bolt of Stuart, Virginia; and several adored nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Light will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Old Bell Spur Primitive Baptist Church in Meadows of Dan with Elders Tony Parker and Tim McGrady officiating. Burial will follow at Bell Spur Community Cemetery in Meadows of Dan. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Old Bell Spur Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Ron Lockhart, 3049 Mitchells Crossroad, Allisonia, Virginia 24347 or to Bell Spur Community Cemetery, c/o Bonita Turman, 658 Clint Lane, Meadows of Dan, VA 24120.
