Betty Jo Hancock Ayers, age 74, of Meadows of Dan, died Thursday, March 17, 2016, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Patrick County on October 27, 1941 and was a daughter of the late Henry Forrest Hancock and Myrtle Helms Hancock.
She retired from DuPont with 27 years of service.
Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Ellis E. Ayers of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Belinda A. and John Adams of Salem; one son, Steven E. Ayers of Salem; four grandchildren, Maegan Doyle, Kayla Ayers, Jordan Doyle and wife Rachel, and Ellisa Ayers; four sisters, Jean Gilley of Stuart, Jeraldean Harrell of Martinsville, Anne Underwood of Walkertown, N.C., and Irene Morrow of Indian Land, S.C.; and a brother, Michael Hancock of Olive Hill, Ky.
A memorial graveside service was held Monday in the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church cemetery with Pastors Fred Gilley and John Franklin officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Vesta Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 911, Meadows of Dan, Va. 24120; or to CurePSP, 30 E. Padonia Rd, Suite 201, Timonium, MD, 21093.
