By Rebecca Adcock, Director of the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce
March roared all month long. The calendar was full of meetings from Chamber committee meetings that worked to create programming for our community, to meetings where we caught up on reports from the National Park Service and the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation work. We also virtually attended the plan reveal meeting for the Mayo River State Park. This 30-year master plan lays out the phases and amenities that the park service will implement. We also attended the public input session Patrick County Planning Commission hosted for the County’s Comprehensive Plan. Their survey is now available on the county’s website. I encourage everyone to fill it out and help shape the next few years for Patrick County. We also attended the annual celebration of the Dan River Basin Association, which was at Rotary this year.
St. Patrick’s Day was productive in Patrick County as we traveled around Stuart with the Leadership Patrick County group. Also, a highlight to check in with our local businesses and hear their stories. Thank you to all the businesses and organizations that opened their doors to this group of individuals.
Later that night, we joined One Family Productions for their annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration at the Star Theatre. The food from Pickle & Ash was amazing and the local music was a great way to celebrate. If you have not checked out a show there, I am sure one can find a concert to suit everyone’s listening preferences.
As a board we are busy working on networking events and learning opportunities. The Chamber is also in the beginning phases of planning with Reynolds Homestead in hosting a Nonprofit Summit later in the fall.
The Spring Patrick County magazine will be out in April, and we look forward to sharing with everyone the stories of what makes Patrick County such a great place to live, work, or play. I encourage everyone to go out and support our local shops, restaurants, and events.
