Claude “Melvin” Flanagan, 76, died peacefully on April 5, 2021.  He lived in Henry County, Virginia virtually his entire life.  He owned and operated Mayo River Garage for decades until retiring about eight years ago to restore old cars, starting with his late wife’s ’65 Mustang fastback.  Melvin always loved the outdoors and spent hours each day driving around and enjoying the beautiful sights of the countryside.  He was a wonderful father and grandfather and took great pleasure in spending time with his people, as well as reading westerns and hot rod magazines.

Melvin is preceded in death by his late wife, Molly Dare Ward Flanagan, his parents, George Harold Flanagan and Helen Flanagan Loudermilk, and brother, George Samuel “Sammy” Flanagan.  He is survived by two daughters, Laura Flanagan Judkins and Maria Flanagan; three grandchildren, Gabe Judkins, Savannah Judkins, and Eli Judkins; sisters Jean Flanagan Adkins, Sandra Flanagan Hutchens, and Marie Flanagan Thomasson; and one brother, Jim Flanagan.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway, VA with Dr. Marion Poythress officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Spencer-Penn Centre, 475 Spencer Penn Rd., Spencer, VA 24165 or to the Horsepasture Volunteer Rescue Squad, 18287 A.L. Philpott Hwy., Ridgeway, VA 24148.

Due to covid-19 outbreak, all restrictions mandated by the guidelines set forth by the state must be followed.

Norris Funeral Services in Stuart is serving the Flanagan family. Online condolences may be made at www.norrisfuneral.com.
