Mr. Steve Douglas Hughes

Mr. Steve Douglas Hughes, age 70 of Stuart, Virginia passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Patrick County on August 23, 1950 to the late Dillard Hughes and Rachel Hodges Hughes. Mr. Hughes served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic with the 45th Trans Co. (AM) (GS) and retired from VDOT with 40 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith, an avid bluegrass fan and loved listening to his brothers play music. Steve was a family man, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.  He found great joy in being Papa to the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Hughes is survived by his devoted wife, Brenda Scott Hughes; one daughter, Valarie Nowlin and husband, Landon; two sons, Timmy Hughes, John Hughes and wife, Beth; nine grandchildren, Mike (TJ) Hughes, Rachel (Austin) Helms, Erin Hughes (Brandon Hylton), Brooke Holt, Bailey Holt, Will Morris, Caleb Morris, Ali Hughes and Little John Hughes; six great grandchildren, Brystol Helms, Stella Helms, Parker Helms, Paisley Hylton, Memphis Hylton, and Oliver Holt; two brothers, Bobby Hughes and wife, Emma  and Larry Hughes;  two very special friends Dean Lawson and Allen Williams and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Pastor Mark Elkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Hughes Family Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Friends are welcome to pay their final respects by visiting Moody Funeral Home in Stuart on Saturday, April 10, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
