The Varsity Cougar Baseball Team travelled to South Boston on Friday, May 28, where they got a solid 11-2 win over a tough Halifax team.

Senior Lane Taylor picked up the win on the mound, throwing a complete game. Taylor gave up 2 runs on 5 hits.

The Patrick County defense had their pitcher’s back. Camden Nowlin and Tucker Swails had two big double plays up the middle.

The Cougars were on their game at the plate as well. Jai Penn, Nash Thompson, and Grayson Howell had 2 hits each.  Jai Penn crossed the plate 3 times. Penn, Thompson, Howell, and Taylor all had 2 RBIs each. Head coach Tal Swails said, “Friday we knocked off Halifax.  I don’t know for 100 percent sure, but I’ve been told that is the first time we’ve beaten Halifax in baseball since they came into the Piedmont District. I am so proud of this bunch. It was a heck of a win in South Boston.

“Lane Taylor threw the game of his high-school career. We made plays on defense all night, and we were tough on offense for 7 innings. When we do all three things well – throw it, catch it, and hit it — we can beat anybody we play.”
