The Patrick County High School baseball team scrimmaged Carroll County last Wednesday at home. According to Coach Matt Mabe, it was the final tune-up before the regular season started.
“This was a positive scrimmage for the Cougars,” Mabe said. The Cougars defeated the Cavaliers 9-0 after playing nine innings in the scrimmage.
The Cougars finished with 10 hits and only one committed error defensively. Austin Vernon and Seth Scott worked three scoreless innings each on the mound; Aaron Pack and Caleb Pendleton pitched the seventh and eighth innings, respectively.
At the plate, the Cougars were led by senior Aubrey Hopkins, who finished with three hits. Austin Vernon and Parker Brown each had multiple-hit performances.
Patrick County opened its regular season Monday night with a home game against Floyd. They hosted Bassett Tuesday evening and will host Halifax Thursday night with the game starting at 5 p.m.
