The Floyd County, Cave Spring and Dan River wrestling teams visited Patrick County on January 22, and the home team Cougars came away with two team wins in their three matches.
The Cougars opened with a 60-6 win over Floyd County before falling to Cave Spring 30-47 in the night’s second match. A very close 36-34 win over Dan River finished the night on a high note for the Cougar wrestlers.
It has been a challenging month for the Cougar wrestling team. After being away for the Christmas holiday, snow, ice and cold weather have combined to take the team off their usual training routine, and added distractions.
“For what we’ve had the last few weeks, I think we did ok, but I expect more between now and the end of the year,” said Cougar coach Timothy Lawson. “We’ve just got to get back on track and back on a regular routine, and keep working hard.”
