The Patrick County High School Boys team hosted Halifax High School on December 13, taking a tough 57-62 loss to the Comets.  Halifax had a 14-9 advantage at the end of the 1st.

Michael Nelson puts up a shot for the Cougars on Dec. 13.

Patrick County make up some ground in the 2nd, but lost steam after halftime.

Each team scored 18 in the 4th, but it wasn’t enough to put the Cougars ahead. George Payton Stovall had 18 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and 1 steal for the Cougars. David Smith had 14 points, 11 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist. Jaivontae Penn put up 13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal, and Michael Nelson had 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists.

The varsity boys team scored a huge 64-54 win over Dan River on the road on Thursday, December 15. It was a back-and-forth game with Dan River leading at the end of the 1st.  Patrick County answered, outscoring Dan River in the 2nd.

The Wildcats came back in the 3rd, but they weren’t enough for the Cougars. Smith had 23 points, 19 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal in the game. Penn had 19 points, 4 rebounds, 6 steals, and 4 assists. George Payton Stovall had 14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal. “David Smith and Jai Penn both had phenomenal a game,” said Coach Brian Chitwood. “Smith had 23 points and 19 rebounds.  Penn had 15 of his 19 points in the 4th quarter.  He was instrumental in us finishing that game and getting back in the winning column. Stovall also had a stellar effort, finishing 1 rebound shy of a double-double. It’s been a long time since PC swept DR in Boys Basketball.”
