The Lady Cougars got a 56-16 win at home against Dan River on December 15.

Missy Hazard had 15 points, 9 of them behind the arc, 10 assists, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals.

Lilli Cobbler had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 steal.  Lilly Hazelwood had 6 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 steal.  The game represented “a complete team win for our kids,” said coach Donny Rakes. “Everyone on the roster contributed and scored. Missy Hazard continues to show excellent senior leadership, as 10 assists is huge for a big-time scorer. Again, the unselfishness of this group is something that makes me proud.”

The team also won its third game in a week when the Lady Cougars traveled to Bassett to take on the Lady Bengals.

The game was tight through halftime, but the Lady Cougars came out big in the 3rd, leading them to a 51-34 win. Missy Hazard had 13 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals in the win. Aniya Penn had 12 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal.  Kimora Wimbush had 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals.

This was “a really tough physical basketball game,” Rakes said. “Hats off to Bassett. They played as hard as any team we have faced this year. We did not match their intensity in the first half. My kids dug down deep on defense in the second half, and that was the difference in the game.”

The Lady Cougars are 6-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Piedmont District.
