Covered Bridge 5K held Saturday

On a perfect day to go for a run, 86 participants competed early Saturday morning in the Covered Bridge 5K Walk/Run near Woolwine. Seventy-five of them finished the race.
The first place finisher was Sakeeta Chantal of Floyd with a time of 17:33.6. Brad Holt of Stuart was second in 19:29.9, followed by Andrew Peddy of Galax in 20:18.0.
Three women from Mount Airy, N.C. were the top female finishers. Megan Collins was the fastest with a time of 22:18.4, finishing in ninth place overall. Amber Horton, the second fastest female, had a time of 22:36.4 for tenth place overall, and Jenna Upchurch was the third fastest in a time of 23:51.9 for 15th overall.
Awards were presented to the top three finishers in each of the age divisions.
