The Colonel Abram Penn Chapter, National Society Daughter of American Revolution met in Landmark Alternate Dining Room on Feb. 11, and participated in a Caring Hearts lunch for each of the eight attending members.

Regent Louise Hansen called the meeting to order. The members said the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag and continued with the American Creed. The Creed states that we have a union of states with “principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which Americans have sacrificed their lives.”

Minutes from December 2019 meeting were read and approved. Treasurer

Mary Ann Franklin gave her report and requested signatures for approval of an audit.

Committees reported as follows:

Regent Hansen reported 2004 hours of volunteer work by members in education, preservation and patriotism.

She also presented the History Minute about a “conscientious objector” in WW II who courageously saved 75 lives by rescuing injured soldiers in the battle of Hacksaw Ridge in the Pacific.

Catheryn Vaughn reported on history of the US flag including adding the two stars for Hawaii and Alaska.  She also reported on Crazy Horse whose famous battle was in 1877, the Battle of the Little Big Horn in the Great Plains which he and his men won.

Flo Bell reported on the value of legumes in your diet to provide Vitamin B needed for focus and memory.

Mary Ann Franklin presented a program on the founding fathers, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and their love of the land. These fathers built monuments while alive by Washington’s planting trees and Jefferson’s acres of flowers and plants. Our country has also built monuments to them in memory of their leadership. Many of us have visited the Jefferson Memorial, DC; and Monticello and Mount Vernon.

New Business included a thank you from Crossnor School and Children’s Home in Winston-Salem, N.C.  Members had contributed numerous school supplies to the school and home.

Regent Hansen reminded members of the 123rd State Conference at the Marriott Hotel, Richmond, March 15-17, 2019.

Meeting Adjourned.
