Mrs. Dorothy Hopkins Tatum, age 101 of Stuart, Virginia passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the home of her caregiver Bonnie Goad. She was born in Patrick County on January 5, 1923, to the late Joseph Ellis Hopkins and Lillian Maude Cochran Hopkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas C. Tatum, II; four sisters, Lora H. Griffith, Mae Pace, Marie Edwards, and Anita Cox; three brothers, Lloyd Hopkins, Hoy Hopkins, and Lloyd Soyars; and a son-in-law, Jeff Wigington.

Mrs. Tatum is survived by her two children, Sharon Tatum Wigington of Stuart, and Tommie Tatum (Carolyn) of Stuart; four grandchildren, T.C. Tatum (Stacey), Tracy Hannold (Jerod), Misty Rogers (Greg), and Monica Gravely; eight great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Kaden, Brendan, Emery, Amber, Joseph, Samuel and Sydney; one great-great grandchild, Harper; two brothers, George Hopkins of Stuart, and Clint Hopkins (Nancy) of Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held for Mrs. Tatum on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in Sycamore Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Donna Britt officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to Sycamore Baptist Church, c/o Marcia Adams, Treasurer, 171 Sycamore Church Lane, Stuart, VA  24171; Alzheimer’s Association, Patrick County Chapter, P.O. Box 1301, Stuart, VA  24171; BrightFocus Foundation, 22512 Gateway Center Drive; Clarksburg, MD 20871; and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart has been entrusted with the arrangements and online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
