E.L. “Lester” Shelor, age 98, a Patrick County native, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at the Landmark Center in Stuart.

He was born in Claudville on July 20, 1918 to the late Ellis Shelor and Hattie Webb Shelor.
He was a member of the CC Corps, served in the Coast Guard during World War II, and was the city treasurer of Kingsport, Tenn. He was a Boy Scout leader and a member of many civic organizations. After retirement he became a gentleman farmer in Meadows of Dan.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucile Wells Shelor, and his daughter, Mary “Eileen” Shelor.
He is survived by two daughters, Leslie “Peggy” Swann and husband Carl of Kingsport, and Susan Service and husband Tim of Meadows of Dan; three grandchildren, Jessica McAlexander and husband Timothy of Meadows of Dan, Eric Swann of Kingsport, and Jeremiah Shelor and wife Katherine of Ashburn; and one great-granddaughter, Amabel Shelor.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 14, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home with Pastor Stewart Childress officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Honor Guard. Interment will be private.
Donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 4200 Innslake Drive, Suite 301, Glen Allen, VA 23060 in memory of his daughter, Eileen Shelor.
